The Kardashians star Kim Kardashian’s SKKN skincare line is the newest addition to her growing list of controversial company brand names.

Kim Kardashian’s new skincare company name falls in line with The Kardashians star’s history of selecting controversial monikers for her companies. Kim’s SKKN imprint is facing criticism over the brand name’s similarity to other celebrity led skincare companies. Kim has been dealing with a trademark issue over the name of her skincare line. With SKKN sharing a brand name with another skincare company called SKKN+, Kim is being accused of using her money and power to knock down a smaller business that doesn’t have the same celebrity backing.

Kim’s newly launched skincare line follows Lori Harvey’s SKN by LH brand, and Hailey Bieber’s Rhode company. With all of the skincare lines fronted by stars competing in an oversaturated market, Kim’s SKKN has been met with more criticism than fanfare. Fans have also accused Kim of overpricing her skincare products in a competitive market. Prices for the SKKN range from $45 for toner to $90 for vitamin C serum. A bundle pack will cost customers over $300, which doesn’t include shipping. Considering Kim’s billionaire status, the reality superstar is accused of slapping her name on overpriced skin care products just to garner more wealth for herself.

It’s not Kim’s first time selecting a brand name that resulted in backlash. From her KKW Beauty brand to SKIMS, Kim has been met with criticism (and legal issues) over the controversial brand names that she chooses. A decade ago, Kim, Kourtney Kardashian, and Khloe Kardashian’s beauty brand Khroma Beauty only lasted about a year before it was snatched off shelves due to a number of copyright claims, Daily Mail reports. There were two other beauty brands called Chroma Beauty, so the Kardashian sisters changed the name to Kardashian Beauty in 2013, but the makeup line went nowhere. In fact, fans can barely remember its existence.

SKIMS prides itself on being Kim’s most profitable business. Thanks to secured deals with the likes of Fendi and Team USA, the shapewear brand has proven to be a huge success for the superstar. However, prior to it being dubbed SKIMS, Kim faced backlash for initially naming the brand, Kimono. While it served as a clear play on her name, many found it to be offensive, and a form of cultural appropriation, something the Kar-Jenners have long been accused of. Kim responded to the backlash and agreed to change the name of her shapewear collection. Kim’s beauty brand KKW Beauty, which is now on hiatus, has brought her more problems than solutions, which why it’s on pause amid a rebrand.

Many believe that Kim wants to change the name because her initials are no longer KKW. After divorcing Kanye West, Kim likely wants to model her beauty company after something else, rather than her old “married woman” initials. The brand relaunched last year as KKW Fragrance, but has since been put on pause again, as Kim works to come up with a new name and look for the beauty brand. Kim has teased her plans to put her beauty and skincare lines under one umbrella, much like Kylie Jenner did with Kylie Cosmetics, Kylie Skin, and Kylie Baby. Kim has many different names for her brands. The Kardashians star is now working to make it all more cohesive. This fits her pattern of selecting controversial brand names.
